Congratulations to our Lady Kats on their 3-1 win at Lapel! Lapel was a solid and aggressive team; however, we truly wanted this win more. Every girl played with heart and aggression until the final whistle. We started strong, dictating the pace of play to take a 3-1 lead at the half. We possessed the ball and made considerable improvements in our first touch. We covered well on defense and won the ball more in the middle. Ellen Callane earned a hard-fought hat trick. She scored early with an assist from Nancy Laughner that got the momentum started. Layla Brehm, Liliana Taskey, Nancy Laughner, Ellen Callane, and Iris Brehm made great passes and ball movement to create scoring opportunities. Callane scored again from another assist from Laughner. It was a complete team effort to get the ball to Callane, and she continued to fight up top for her hat trick from an assist by Layla Brehm. The second half was a defensive physical battle. The Bulldogs came out scrappy and applied pressure, but the Lady Kats were up to the challenge. Gisella Herrera and Elaina Gibson dominated defensively in the middle. Riley Rudolph, Darriuna Kirby, Laikyn McDorman, and Lyrik Barbour played aggressively and united in the back against a skilled and fast Lapel offense. Maddie Carpenter had a stellar game with 24 saves in the goal. Analis Fuentes and Indiria Faison played their hearts out on the outside, both offensively and defensively, shutting out two of Lapel's top scorers. This was an all-around team win. The entire team had more intensity than the last games, and the score represented that. The team showed real growth, giving the same effort in the second half as in the first, and we never gave up. Congrats, Lady Kats, on the first win of your new winning streak. We are back in action when they travel to Muncie Central on Saturday.
