The Kokomo Wildkats hosted conference foe Marion and defeated the visitors by a score of 6-1. The Kats controlled possession early, and looked comfortable on the attack in the opening moments of the match. Junior co-captain Ben Herrera, junior midfielder Javier Carrera, and senior striker Flory Bidunga all had shots in or near the Giants’ penalty area, but it was not until the 23rd minute of play that the Kats cracked the Marion defense when Bidunga scored near the penalty spot to take a 1-0 Wildkat lead. With just under ten minutes to play, Herrera’s corner kick was nodded home by senior co-captain AJ Blessing, building a 2-0 lead that the Kats would take into halftime. After the break, the Wildkats finished off the Giants quickly. Ninety seconds into the second half, Carrera scored a wonder goal from the left side of field outside the corner of penalty box that sailed into the side netting for a 3-0 lead. Herrera slotted home a goal at the near post five minutes later, and ten minutes later, Bidunga assisted Carrera’s second goal of the night to complete the brace. With just under 19 minutes to play in the second half, junior midfielder Henrique Alvarenga de Oliviera drew a penalty after beating his mark in the box, and slotted home the sixth goal of the night for the Kats. The Giants were able to break through on a header off of a free kick with 13 minutes left in the match, but, the Wildkats (5-7-0, 3-4-0) picked up the conference win. Freshman Ethan Landrum finished with 4 saves. Your man of the match is Junior Javier Carrera. The Wildkats (5-7-0, 3-4-0) host non-conference foe Carrol Thursday in a varsity only match.
