Unified Kats Place 4th, Show Depth and Grit at West Lafayette

The Kats opened the meet in impressive fashion as the 4x200 relay team of Joshua Smith, Ellie Neuhauser, Macy Rakestraw, and Hutch Munsey tied the Unified Kats team record with a time of 2:05.1. Their performance set the tone for a day filled with energy, effort, and results. The shot put group delivered one of the strongest showings of the meet, highlighting both depth and steady improvement across the board. Kayln Williams (11’1”) and Bella Steele (18’) got things started, while Austin Jewell reached 30’6” with Dawson Early close behind at 29’4”. Several athletes continued to push their limits, including Claire Rowe (14’9”), Victoria Pulver (15’9”), and Taniya Jones (16’9”). Kendall Novinger edged closer to the 20-foot mark with a 19’9.5” throw, while Aiden Riegler (20’3”) and Brooklyn Smith (20’4”) made strong impressions. Seth Rowe added a 24’2” effort, and Ethan Lee showed tremendous determination by surpassing his goal with a 24’5” throw. Joseph Lowery capped the group’s performance with an outstanding 29’6.5”. In the long jump, the Kats continued their strong showing with multiple top finishes. Braedyn Booker led the way with a winning jump of 16’11”, followed by Marc Cuberto at 15’5”, as both claimed first in their flights. Aaron Cruz (11’1”) and Erik Carter also secured top finishes, while Izzy Sargent’s 6’9” earned a fourth-place finish. Ellie Neuhauser added a consistent 11’6”, with several others contributing solid performances. On the track, the 100-meter dash featured competitive heats and continued growth. Macy Rakestraw (16.50) and Brooklyn Smith (16.75) led on the girls’ side, while Braedyn Booker (12.68) and Joshua Smith (12.88) competed in a strong field. The exhibition races brought additional momentum, with first-place finishes from Taniya Jones, Lily Walton, and Hutch Munsey, while Carter McClain posted one of the top times of the day at 12.39. The team’s depth was evident with personal-best performances from a wide group of athletes. The 400 meters showcased continued progress, led by Joseph Randolph’s personal-best 1:09.59. Ethan Lytle (1:12.55) and Aaron Cruz (1:16.80) added strong efforts, while Carter McClain delivered another standout performance with a 1:00.43. The relays provided a fitting finish to the meet. The 4x100 team of Maddie Armstrong, Brooklyn Smith, Macy Rakestraw, and Ellie Neuhauser not only took first place but set a new Unified Kats record at 1:05.50. The mark also stands as the first all-female relay win in program history, improving the previous record by nearly seven seconds. The mixed 4x100 team of Hayden Humbarger, Austin Jewell, Joshua Smith, and Braedyn Booker added a strong fourth-place finish, continuing to build chemistry and confidence. Across all events, the Kats demonstrated depth, resilience, and a growing competitive edge. With record-setting performances, personal bests, and strong finishes throughout, this group continues to build momentum as the season progresses.
