Boys Swimming 2026 Sectional Prelims Thursday night the Katfish traveled to Carmel High School to compete in the preliminary round of the IHSAA Boys Swim Sectional. Our boys team approached sectionals with the mindset of doing your best regardless of those around you… last night the Katfish showed up and did just that! Swimming in such a competitive meet is a great experience; and we were able to consistently drop times with many PRs and season best times. Top Relay Results The Katfish started out strong with the 200 Medley Relay, the team of Carter McClain, Zavier Larmer, Tae Ow Kanayama, and Oliver Taskey dropped 1.24 seconds off their PR, earning a 6th place finish with a time of 1:51.69. Keeping the momentum going; Carter McClain, Zavier Larmer, Phenix Bray, and Hutch Munsey dropped 1.51 seconds off their PR, placing 8th in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Our final relay of the night, the 400 Freestyle Relay of Oliver Taskey, Carter McClain, Hutch Munsey, and Tae Ow Kanayama, secured a 9th place finish with a time of 3:57.43. Top Individual Results Individuals competing on Saturday include; Tae Ow Kanayama and Carter McClain. Kanayama will compete in the consolation heat of the 100 Butterfly, after earning a 13th place finish with a time of 58.31. McClain will compete in the 100 Backstroke consolation heat, after earning a 15th place finish with a time of 1:07.15. Serving as alternates for Saturday’s meet are; Oliver Taskey who placed in the 200 Free with a time of 2:10.10 (17th) and Tae Ow Kanayama in the 50 Free with a time of 24.13 (17th). I’m incredibly proud of our boys and how they competed, had some solid races and significant time drops! Hutch Munsey started off the night for us, dropping 1.93 seconds off his 200 Freestyle (2:14.04); Jesse Cummings dropped an incredible 8.26 seconds in the 200 IM (2:54.49); Phenix Bray dropped 0.97 seconds off his 50 Free (25.31), Odin Salinas dropped 1.22 seconds in the 50 Free as well (35.56). Elliott Taskey dropped 7.09 seconds in the 100 Fly (1:14.40); Phenix Bray cut 5.95 seconds in the 100 Freestyle to go sub-one for the first time (59.18), Marc Cuberta dropped 5.55 seconds too (1:02.34); and we had massive time drops in the 500 Free by Oliver Taskey (5:57.02) and Jack Stout (6:21.39); and Mar Cuberta dropped 4.69 seconds in the 100 Backstroke (1:15.25). It’s so fulfilling to see all the time and effort the boys have put in to pay off at sectionals. Let’s keep this momentum going into next season!
