Kokomo High School VS Lafayette Jeff

Our mental toughness was put to the test against a strong Lafayette Jeff team. It was 0 to 3 at the half, an improvement from years past. We want to thank Lafayette Jeff for hosting an exceptional night at Loeb Stadium that brought awareness to mental health. Mental Health America Wabash County sponsored the night and provided special jerseys to bring attention to the mental health crisis. It was a tough night for JV and Varsity, but they put in a complete effort and pushed through many injuries. Although the score isn’t what we wanted the outcome to be, we saw many great things and ways to improve! We made some adjustments, and the girls continue to grow together. We pushed through despite missing two starting players. Mattie Carpenter led the team with 19 saves and was fearless in the net. Freshman Elaina Gibson played a stellar game on defense. Indiria Faison brought enthusiasm to each play and created opportunities. Ellen Callane had a hard-fought goal with an assist from Iris Brehm in the second half. Our goal was a team effort, starting with Lyrik Barbour winning the ball in the back. We played a long and challenging game. Lafayette was a solid and experienced team. We learned from our mistakes and continued to improve on the field. We played with heart and enthusiasm, and that's the best you can ask for from a team. I am proud of these girls for their heart, hustle, and teamwork. We played until the final whistle and continued showing grit and intensity throughout the field and the bench. The Lady Kats gave it their all to win the battle of MENTAL toughness. We are back at it Thursday as we face Pike at home.
