Girls: Second Place (258 points scored) Saturday morning the Katfish traveled to Lafayette Jefferson High School to compete in the annual North Central Conference Swim Meet. After almost a month without a meet and a practice-filled winter break, the Katfish were ready to see their hard work pay off! Our girls team finished in 2nd place, while scoring 258 points, claiming the top spot in 4 swimming events (2 individual & 2 relays). Top girls relay performances include: Maddie Armstrong, Shanna Fowler, Morgan Rakestraw, and Clarissa Landrum placed 1st in the 200 Medley Relay; Maddie Armstrong, Morgan Rakestraw, Alyssa Frederick, and Shanna Fowler placed 1st in the 200 Free Relay. Top girls individual performers include: Morgan Rakestraw placed first in the 100 Butterfly and second in the 200 IM . Shanna Fowler placed first in the 100 Breaststroke and second in the 50 Free. Maddie Armstrong placed second in both 100 Backstroke and 200 IM. Alyssa Frederick took second place in the 200 Freestyle and third in the 500 Freestyle. Other podium finishes include Gretchen Riggle who took fifth in the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly, Clarissa Landrum with sixth place in the 100 Freestyle, and Emma Di Stefano took sixth in the 100 Backstroke. I’m so incredibly proud of our performance on Saturday afternoon, we swam exceptionally well all around! We had some excellent swims with plenty of time drops across the board and athletes pushing themselves to the brink. Each swimmer had a goal going into the meet, and we were able to knock those off one-by-one all meet long! I’m excited to see how our team handles this busy two-week stretch of meets & practices. The Katfish are back at it on Wednesday, January 14th, at Lewis Cass!
