LadyKats Send 3 to State Finals

The Kokomo LadyKats wrestling team competed with heart and determination, facing a challenging field that tested every athlete on the roster. While the results were mixed, the effort, toughness, and growth shown throughout the tournament reflected how far this group has come over the course of the season. Spencer Martin and Sydney Sease both dropped their opening-round matches, the two sophomores still can compete in Freshman/Sophomore State in two weeks. Nevaeh Wilson and Berklee Stump each opened the tournament with strong first-round victories before falling in the ticket round. For the two seniors, the losses were especially difficult, as they finished their careers just one match short of qualifying for the state tournament. Their leadership, consistency, and commitment have left a lasting impact on the LadyKats program and set a standard for future wrestlers to follow. Three Juniors punched their tickets to state, Makyila Rubush and Addison Cline both fought their way to fourth-place finishes, grinding through multiple matches and showing composure deep into the tournament. Each demonstrated improved technique and mental toughness, proving they can compete with some of the best in the field and positioning themselves for continued success moving forward. Ja’Layia Williams delivered one of the highlights of the day by finishing as the tournament runner-up. Her second-place finish was the result of relentless effort, confidence, and poise under pressure. Overall, the LadyKats showed grit and pride, and while the season ends with a bit of heartbreak, it also closes with optimism and respect for the work these athletes have put in, especially the seniors who gave everything to the program. IHSAA State Finals will be this Friday at the Indiana State Fair Grounds. Wrestling starts at 9am. As Always, GO KATS GO! Coach Bough
