Varsity Football vs. Whiteland

The Kats went down to a hostile environment Friday night to play the defending 5A state runner up. Going in with the underdog mentality gave our team an edge. We had a great week of practice leading up to the game even though it was one of the hottest weeks of the year. We wanted to own the time of possession and win the line scrimmage on both sides of the ball. We finished the night with over 30 minutes time of possession and 293 yards of rushing. Our defensive game plan worked really well and was executed to perfection. Offensively we were led by Reis Beard with 123 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Tracy Dowling had a great game as well with 97 yards and a touchdown. Our offensive line made the biggest improvement from week 1 to week 2 and Logan Dockemeyer made his first start at full back and was the ultimate team player with the blocking he did. This unit has a high ceiling and will continue to improve with time. Defensively we were challenged with a very unique style of offense. Whiteland like us loves to run the ball and hangs their hat on running the edge and running power. We knew we were up against a tall task but had a great plan and a great week of prep. We held Whiteland to 129 net yards and 13 yards passing. Our leading tacklers were Bixton Morris, Reis Beard, and Tracy Dowling with 8, 7 and 5 respectively. As a team we finished with 8 tacklers for a loss. We have our first conference game this week with Logansport coming to town. We hope to have a great crowd and will look forward to seeing everyone there. Thank you for your support. Go Kats!
