Wildkats Tangle with Tigers, Earn First Win of the Season

The Wildkats played soccer on the hottest day of the year and scorched the hosts for a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Northwestern. It was a tale of two halves, as Northwestern scored first ten minutes into the first half when a ball played through the left side of the Wildkat defense was finished by a Tiger forward for a 1-0 lead. In his finest match of the season, it was the only goal freshman keeper Ethan Landrum would allow on the night as he finished 9 saves. Neither team established much control of the match in the first half, but the Wildkats were dangerous on the counter. After narrowly missing a few opportunities, senior forward Flory Bidunga notched his second goal of the season with just under ten minutes to play. After the break, the Wildkats began to establish more dominance in possession of the ball in their attacking half of the field. With just under ten minutes to play in the match, junior forward Lorenzo Del Bo fired the go ahead goal from the left side of the box off of a brilliant assist by Bidunga. In earning the first win of the 2023 season, the Wildkats defeated the Tigers in what junior team captain Ben Herrera called a “total team effort!” As a box to box midfielder who stymied the Tiger attack all night and provided a physical presence in the middle of the park, senior captain AJ Blessing is your man of the match. The Wildkats (1-3-0, 0-2-0) travel to Oak Hill Saturday to continue non-conference play.
