The Kokomo VolleyKats finished 3rd out of 9 at the KHS Invite of Saturday. Third place is the highest finish by Kokomo in the history of the event. In the first two matches, Kokomo faced a young Maconaquah team and a solid Muncie Central team and won both matches 2-0. We had a slow start, but eventually got confidence and energy to move onto the Championship Bracket. In the third match of the day, the VolleyKats faced a very talented Whiteland team whom was 2-0 in the tournament thus far. Kokomo took the first set with some of the best volleyball we had played thus far this season, but dropped the second set. In the third set, it was back and forth the entire time, but Whiteland just had a little more gas in the tank to take the win 17-15. Whiteland was a great test for us and we are excited about how the girls rose to the occasion and played with confidence. In the last match of the day, conference foe Harrison, beat us 2-0 to secure a spot in the Championship match against Whiteland. We played hard, but it just wasn't enough for an extremely talented Harrison team. Overall, the tournament was a great success and we are proud of how we competed. This was a great test for us before a tough week coming up against Eastern and McCutcheon. Our next match is Tuesday at Eastern. GO KATS. -Coach Haley Peckinpaugh
