The Lady Wildkats made a strong showing at the New Palestine High School Wrestling Tournament, finishing 6th overall out of 28 teams in a highly competitive field. The team displayed grit and determination throughout the day, with several athletes earning spots on the podium. Their collective effort and energy reflected the hard work they’ve been putting in during the early stages of the season, proving Kokomo is becoming a growing force in girls’ wrestling across the state. Leading the way for the Lady Wildkats was Nevaeh Wilson, who dominated the 120-pound division to claim 1st place. Her sharp technique and aggressive pace set the tone for the team and capped off an outstanding performance. Makyila Rubush also turned in an excellent day on the mat, earning a 2nd-place finish at 125 pounds, coming up just short in a hard-fought championship match. Jacquelynn Groves battled her way to 3rd place at 140 pounds, showcasing her resilience and ability to grind out tough victories. Several other Lady Wildkats made their presence felt with strong finishes. Myla Duke (155 lbs) placed 4th, showing continued improvement each week, while Addison Cline (130 lbs) and Berklee Stump (170 lbs) both captured 5th-place medals after solid performances in their brackets. Sydney Sease, competing in the heavyweight division, also took 5th, demonstrating power and control against tough competition. Merryroze Bowen (110 lbs) and Ja’layia Williams (135 lbs) each earned 8th-place finishes, adding valuable team points, while Destiny Miller (145 lbs) battled hard but came up just short of placement. The team’s 6th-place overall finish among nearly thirty schools is a testament to Kokomo’s depth, effort, and growing potential. The Lady Wildkats continue to build momentum as they gain experience and confidence against strong programs from across the region. With several medalists and a championship performance from Wilson leading the way, Kokomo’s girls’ wrestling program is on the rise and looks poised for even greater success in the weeks ahead.
